Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving week has always been one of my favorite times of the year. This year's break was a little shorter than normal, because of basketball, but it was still a wonderful, relaxing time!

We actually coached in a game on Tuesday night, and then had early morning practice on Wednesday/Thanksgiving Eve (8:00 am sharp!) When we left Northwestern, we headed straight for Battle Creek, Michigan...good ole Cereal City USA.

Wednesday afternoon/evening in Michigan consisted of playing some euchre, eating a great supper that Mom cooked (Tiffany and Tom had to warm up leftovers because they got a late start from Ohio :), and then going to church for "Pie, Praise, and Prayer". Like every Cary family trip to church, we got there an hour early and left an hour and half after it ended. Mom had to squeeze in a drama rehearsal before the service started, and Tom and I had to squeeze in some basketball afterwards before we could go home :)

When we got home Wednesday, we watched some basketball on TV, stayed up way too late, and Tom and I played a zillion board games we hadn't touched in a decade: Battleship, Trouble, Racko, you name it and we played it. Yes, Chutes and Ladders was included...and I won ("pure skill", I told him afterwards).

Thursday the whole family trekked next door for dinner at Grandpa & Grandma's house. The festivities started at noon, the Lions game came on at 12:30, and we ate dinner at 1. I've never understood this system of waiting until kickoff to eat, but 24 years of lobbying has gone nowhere. Only in Michigan can Lions fans miss half of the Thanksgiving game every year :)

The rest of the day included more euchre, more pie, more euchre, more pie, well, you get the idea.

By lunchtime Friday (after a big breakfast, some more euchre, and a last slice of pie), we were headed back to Ohio...made it to Northwestern in plenty of time for a 5 pm bball practice...and that was Thanksgiving break.

I loved it :)

A New Video Debuts (and other news/notes...)

Make sure you're on time to the morning service Sunday...and see the debut of a special new video about "The Most Wanted List". And don't forget to bring ten first names of unsaved friends you want to invite to "Welcome Home".

It's not too late to sign up to be included in the church pictorial directory. Call the office for more information.

Under the category of "Many hands make light work":

Set Decoration Day is Saturday (Nov. 10) beginning at 10 am.

Leaf Day is Saturday, Nov. 17 beginning at 9 am.

So much going on! And don't forget about that video Sunday morning...you won't want to miss it!

Life is a Whirlwind...

...at least it seems that way at the Cary house right now! Molly and I tend to meet ourselves coming and going between school, church, coaching, and whatever else happens to be occurring on a given day!

We (the Northwestern High School Lady Warriors) had our first basketball scrimmage yesterday in Cedarville...we plan to cram several more into the next week or so, and hopefully that will help get us ready for the season opener (11/16).

We (the cast of "Welcome Home") have our first combined rehearsal this Sunday afternoon. Lights, sound, choir, actors, lots to get sorted out and put together. Hopefully the next week and a half will see the stages getting built, the set getting decorated, and (cue song): "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas..." :)

In between all that, we plan practice each day, eat dinner (sometimes at insane hours), Molly grades papers, and when I'm not sick of basketball already (ha!), I turn on the Lakers or Purdue on TV.

Whew...that was exhausting just to type. But that's what's going on...and that's why you don't see my smiling face posting on this blog quite as often!

(cue complete topic shift coming in three...two...one)

Next Sunday, November 11, is "Ticket Day"...we will be handing out ticket-sized flyers for the Christmas musical and compiling a "Most Wanted List"...first names of unsaved friends/family members/coworkers/neighbors that you are planning to invite to the show. Please, please, please...take some time in the next week to think of some names...pray about who the Lord would have you invite...we want our program to be an effective outreach, not just a nice performance. Then we can pray along with you for the next five weeks that A. you will have the boldness to invite your friends...B. they will come to the program, and C. the Lord will work in amazing ways.

Thanks! Have a great week, everybody!
